Nalanxingde (1654-1685) was a Manchu nobleman and bodyguard of the emperor Kangxi. This volume presents a selection of Nalan’s poems of love and devotion, of admiration for nature, of grief at time’s passage. New translations of nearly fifty poems, each set to a tune well known in the early Ch’ing.
