Banerjee and Esther Duflo, two practical visionaries working toward ending world poverty, answer these questions from the ground. In a book the "Wall Street Journal" called "marvelous, rewarding," the authors tell how the stress of living on less than 99 cents per day encourages the poor to make questionable decisions that feed--not fight--poverty. 埃斯特•迪弗洛(Esther Duflo)，美国麻省理工学院经济系阿卜杜勒•拉蒂夫•贾米尔扶贫与发展经济学教授；曾就读于法国巴黎高等师范学院和美国麻省理工学院；获大量荣誉：2010年度约翰•贝茨•克拉克奖，2009年度麦克阿瑟“天才”奖学金，《经济学人》杂志“八大杰出经济学家”之一，《外交政策》杂志“百位最具影响力思想家”之一，《财富》杂志2010年“40位40岁以下”最具影响力的企业领导人之一。2003年，班纳吉和迪弗洛联合创建阿卜杜勒•拉蒂夫•贾米尔贫困行动实验室（J-PAL），并一直共同为该实验室提供指导。J-PAL实验室的任务是确保扶贫政策的制定基于科学依据，从而减少贫困人口。J-PAL实验室的研究成果已赢得国际认可，获西班牙毕尔巴鄂比斯开银行年度“知识前沿”奖。
