There’s a “queer theory” before queer theory.本書最重要的是Part 1 & 2。Part 1挖瞭酷兒理論的根——雖然我們常常把酷兒理論歸功於比較文學等學科及巴特勒、福柯等學者，但在這之前以社會學的芝加哥學派為核心的符號互動主義、越軌社會學早已提齣過類似的理論。某種意義上酷兒理論是在reinventing the wheel。Part 2來自1994年Sociological Theory的一期特刊，反思社會學與酷兒理論的關係。Part 3 & 4基本都是實證研究，簡單掃過。
