第四次读。Henry James的书如同一座精致古堡，每次探寻都会发现之前没注意过的细节。这次重读，小说无数次重复的两个词determine，success，都是讽刺也是实话，we're heroines of our own fictions and then we discover we are no more than convenient characters. Still we can determine to lead a "successful" heroine life by trying to face real life instead of escaping into another fantasy.
