an unfinished but seminal modern novel

It was first thought to be a story about a man getting lost in seeking status against bureaucracy. However, in the near end of the book, he's been told of being deceived at the very beginning by his once beloved woman. Had the author finished the story, he wouldn't have hit the bottom yet, I guess.

在非洲的一個小島上終於將此艱澀難讀的The Castle一字一句讀完瞭。K dot給瞭我堅持自己的勇氣。忍不住引用前言中的一句話“...one can live marginally with complete integrity and without loss of background”。謝謝卡夫卡。讀書是很個人的事情。我讀到自己。

讀完一個七頁紙長的自然段，我心纍瞭???? 的確，這本書有卡夫卡一如既往的令人窒息的力量，並且比The Trial多瞭令人想要扇一巴掌的角色們，但是整體故事完成度真的太低瞭，章節之間的關係處理的不好，不如The Trial和他的一些短篇讀起來有整體感。當然我可以把所有這些看做讀這本書的體驗的一部分 - 沒邏輯的章節、可憎的人物、令人發指的長篇意識流敘述。畢竟我沒事讀它乾什麼，不就是為瞭這沒邏輯、可憎、令人發指的體驗嗎...

Franz Kafka was born in 1883 in Prague, where he lived most of his life. During his lifetime, he published only a few short stories, including “The Metamorphosis,” “The Judgment,” and “The Stoker.” He died in 1924, before completing any of his full-length novels. At the end of his life, Kafka asked his lifelong friend and literary executor Max Brod to burn all his unpublished work. Brod overrode those wishes.
