朱天文，台湾女作家，王德威所称的“张派传人”的重要代表人物，以胡兰成和张爱玲为师。台湾新电影的重要编剧之一。祖籍山东临朐，1956年八月生于高雄凤山。淡江大学英文系毕业。出身文学家族，曾主编《三三集刊》、《三三杂志》，开办三三书坊，现专事写作。1982年与陈坤厚、侯孝贤结识，从此与台湾“新电影”导演、编剧、影评人往来频繁，多方参与“新电影”的发展。1983年之后，与侯孝贤导演长期合作编剧，创作了许多为台湾电影赢得巨大国际声誉的电影作品；其间亦不断出版电影剧本及原著小说，与电影各自成为独立的作品。1994年以长篇小说《荒人手记》获得首届时报文学百万小说奖。著有《淡江记》、《炎夏之都》、《世纪末的华丽》、《巫言》等。

His feverish journey through forests of metaphor and allusion -- from Fellini and Levi-Strauss to classical Chinese poetry -- serves as a litany protecting him from the ravages of time and finitude.
