和Wittkower比起来，Rowe当然更为直接。但以黄金比取代传统比例的句法分析、类型的比较、结构作为一种概念（Wittkower是Alberti的墙建筑，Rowe是Chicago Frame）、视觉规则（Wittkower是透视，Rowe是立体主义）以及社会状况对建筑语言的影响（现代建筑被判定为更接近Mannerism的理由）都如出一辙。对Rowe而言，国际式是切实存在的，对他而言困难在于去界定那一度被否定却又坚信某种意义上必须的形式理论。
