到底是誰率先抨擊BAUHAUS的現代主義，文丘裏還是柯林羅。。。

和Wittkower比起來，Rowe當然更為直接。但以黃金比取代傳統比例的句法分析、類型的比較、結構作為一種概念（Wittkower是Alberti的牆建築，Rowe是Chicago Frame）、視覺規則（Wittkower是透視，Rowe是立體主義）以及社會狀況對建築語言的影響（現代建築被判定為更接近Mannerism的理由）都如齣一轍。對Rowe而言，國際式是切實存在的，對他而言睏難在於去界定那一度被否定卻又堅信某種意義上必須的形式理論。

去年在Vidler提醒留意那篇《手法主義與現代建築》的情況下找齣書重讀，纔讀齣未盡之言：來自維特科爾的古典熏陶、前現代主義的概念辨析及與現代主義的關係（類似柯洪）、烏托邦與政治哲學。羅的曆史評述是洄遊式的，經常來迴往復，不置必然對錯；言辭經常從不苟言笑瞬間跳到插科打諢。烏托邦、新古典、個性與構圖這三篇裏潛藏瞭《拼貼城市》的寫作素材，即羅翻齣他寫過的史料重新組閤進新書。羅有濃重英國經驗主義色彩，這一點與德法史論截然有彆；這書幾篇文章對現代主義尚抱有褒揚。透明性演化為他康奈爾時期的城市策略即圖底關係法，但自身卻戛然而止。羅的形式分析亦類似。羅的意識形態批判在拒斥激進美學與宏大構想的同時，明顯在轉化著波普爾；然而他自身的古典青睞又調入瞭一堆修辭行頭。我相信羅是拉斯金的真心粉；越真心，越不掛在嘴上。
