a very detailed discription, yet Mommsen gave a one-side image of Weber's political ideas, a supporter of nationalism, imperialism, and power politics. Hence, I suggest reading Beetham's book for acquiring the other side of Weber, the bourgeoisie, individualist, and liberal aspect.

important and wonderful, especially, the chapter "the making of Weimar institution", why did Max Weber and Carl Schmitt dislike the Germany parliament? What were the situation and characteristic of Germany bourgeoisie?Why did Max Weber want to elect the plebiscitary charismatic authority against the Weimar parliament?

【作者简介】

沃尔夫冈·J. 蒙森（Wolfgang J. Mommsen，1930—2004）德国著名历史学家，曾先后任教于科隆大学、杜塞尔多夫大学，并担任伦敦的德国历史研究所主任。他的研究兴趣和写作领域很广，包括民主史、社会史、思想史、经济史等，主攻19世纪末20世纪初的英国史和德国史。

本书是蒙森的第一本专著，其著作另有《官僚制度的年代：论马克斯·韦伯的政治社会学》（1974）、《帝国主义的理论》（1977）、《帝国主义德国1867—1918：一个集权国家的政治、文化和社会》（1995）等。

阎克文，1984—2000年先后就职于山东省总工会和新华社，2000年辞职，专事马克斯·韦伯著作的译介，译作另有《新教伦理与资本主义精神》、《经济与社会》、《君主论》、《贡斯当政治论文选》、《公众舆论》（合译）、《民主新论》（合译）等。目前已有的韦伯著作中译本，半数以上出自阎克文的译笔。

Wolfgang J. Mommsen shows the important links between these seemingly conflicting positions and provides a critique of Weber's sociology of power and his concept of democratic rule.

First published in German in 1959, "Max Weber and German Politics" appeared in a revised edition in 1974 and became available in an English translation only in 1984. In writing this work, Mommsen drew extensively on Weber's published and unpublished essays, newspaper articles, memoranda, and correspondence.
