一条为弗罗斯特所坚持、从不怀疑的信念就是：赶时髦，和诗创作，是两回事。诗歌女神不能被当作展览时装的模特儿。他很明白，离开了他的祖国，他所熟悉的土地，他就失去了精神的营养和诗的灵感，他将一事无成，只是一个无根无胚的逃亡者；作为一个诗人，他将再写不出什么好作品来了。
