虽然有的方法有点老了，但是这本书非常基础，很好读，对于我来说也是最重要的书之一。

和一般意义上的学术类书籍不太一样，在我看来更像是讲给小孩子听的睡前故事书，P.L 还和读者分享语音采集经验中的各种小插曲，读起来让人心服口服，他也没有学者居高临下的姿态，他只是在分享一种研究方法，他更像一个说故事的人。

流畅可读的英文，实用的分析技巧，不时出现的趣事，配合Ladefoged的幽默，加上最后一章的玩笑，收获丰盈之际，也令人动容。

Describing how people talk requires recording and analyzing phonetic data. Peter Ladefoged, one of the world's leading phoneticians, introduces the experimental phonetic techniques for describing the major phonetic characteristics of any language.
