Globaliation as complex connectivity (vs. simply increased mobility), explained as consequencies of modernity within Giddens' framework (insitutional changes + changes in our experience with some ontolgical categories) + a good cultural analytical framework + sophisticated language (half of my class didn't like it).

現代性，媒體，食品文化，去地域化，世界人等等概念都是非常有意思的。隻是很多時候為瞭凸顯地方性的重要忽視瞭地方與全球之間的張力關係。同時，很多例子還是偏西方化的。對其他地區經驗的缺乏是本書的一大弱點。

Quite abstruse and abstract at first but easier in the following chapters. Got deeper understanding when reading again.

邏輯很清晰謹慎，而且對2000之前關於globalization和modernity的主要理論都有總結和評論，讀完再讀其他globalization studies的書會覺得很易懂。對去地域化的論述比較齣彩，可惜的是沒有對reterritorializaiton作更為dialectical的解讀。
