Excellent economic history of the yangzi delta, although i'm not quiet convinced of Huang's analysis of post Mao economics. Still, best book I've read so far on the region.

黄宗智（Philip C.C.Huang），加利福尼亚大学洛杉矶校区（University of California，Los Angeles）历史系教授（1966—2004年），中国研究中心创办主任（1986～1995年），Modem China创刊编辑（1975年至今）。主要著作有《华北小农经济与社会变迁》、《经验与理论：中国社会、经济与法律的实践历史研究》，以及法律史的三卷本：《清代的法律、社会与文化：民法的表达与实践》、《法典、习俗与司法实践：清代与民国的比较》和《过去和现在：中国民事法律实践的探索》。
