是很珍貴的史料無疑瞭哥倫布的航行日記不同於Vespucci 他在第一次航行之後就對具體所到之處的遭遇和情況不再感興趣因而日記越往後越無聊越來越傾嚮於大談自己被不公地對待、自己多麼虔誠、功勞多麼大、多麼應該被授以美洲總督的使命等等這也側麵反映瞭他一開始這件事時候的動機是經濟的或者一種以政治為目的的宗教訴求。當一次次被事實挫敗，非但發現的不是亞洲，而且沒有那麼多財富的時候，他是失望的，即使在信中一再強調重要性也無濟於事瞭。後繼者很快就調整瞭姿態一場轟轟烈烈的殖民也已經悄悄拉開序幕但哥倫布自己已完全沒法跟上帝國的步伐瞭
