Probably the best known of all Dickens' works, "Oliver Twist" has been adapted for stage and screen many times. The story of an orphan, born into a workhouse, escaping into the open arms of a gang of thieves and criminals, was a damning indictment of the society of the time, and still retains a very real contemporary relevance. Peopled by some of Dickens' most vivid and colourful characters, including Fagan and "the artful dodger," this is a dynamic tale of wonder and survival, a timeless work of literature of the highest quality.
