讀這本書之前，我也一直以為evolution就是自然選擇。其實很多人都這樣認為，就連哈佛大學自然曆史博物館也是，一開始介紹進化生物學，緊接著就介紹自然選擇。雖然有些地方Lynch的語言繞口瞭一點，但是他總結瞭基因組學，遺傳學，分子生物學等等學科新的數據和進展，用這些研究結果對進化生物學的基本問題再一次提問：多細胞生物與單細胞生物甚至原生生物在基因組上的不同之處，真的是來自於自然選擇嗎？
