因想读一本family saga, 是时候感受一下这位prolific, 描写家庭极具洞察力的作者的文风。从30年代到当下，这是一个家庭四代人的故事。作者用几乎揶揄的语调，描述了一个个鲜明的人物和他们的互动，读起来轻松有趣。但它超越家庭幽默小品的地方在于它的中心是一个反美国梦的故事（并不是我们努力工作，我们在一起，幸福就是结局这样的梦）。它也是一个我们邻居，或我们自己的故事：从开篇夫妻俩接到孩子电话开始互相埋冤起，作者就简明地表达这是一个普通平凡的家庭，也没什么伟大故事，没有戏剧性的分分合合。但之所以写他们，就是因为这家人和大多数人一样，自认为自己的家庭还挺“special"的。还有其他可引起共鸣的主题：家和归属，自由和取舍，父母和偏爱，时间和它的毁灭力量。又一位让我惊喜的作家。

就是喜欢这种家庭故事，对话的感觉，讲述的感觉。听的有声书，中间有部分都没有好好听进去，更喜欢开头和结尾的部分。

近期读的最好的一本小说。关于一个美国家庭的生活变迁，语言平实，生活化又能在细微处击中内心。亲子关系，婆媳关系等等大家庭的纠葛全世界都是一样的，完全没有文化差异嘛！◑▂◑

Anne Tyler was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1941 and grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. This is her 17th novel. Her 11th, Breathing Lessons, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1988. A member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, she lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
