a Shakespearean story retold by a talented writer; love the playfulness of her writing in this novel—totally appropriate, as Shakespeare wrote plenty of humour into the original; a couple of the things that made me smile...seriously what else are you expecting from a book

珍妮特·溫特森，1959年生於曼徹斯特，五個月大時被康斯坦斯·溫特森和約翰·W. 溫特森夫婦收養，並在伊利姆的五旬節派教堂接受傳教士的培養。溫特森十六歲時對自己的同誌身份覺醒並離傢，後來進入牛津大學學習。1985年，處女作、半自傳體小說《橘子不是唯一的水果》一舉榮獲惠特布雷德首作奬，溫特森成為英國文壇一顆耀眼的新星。她的作品先後獲得約翰·盧埃林·裏斯奬、E. M. 福斯特奬、蘭布達文學奬等眾多文學大奬，她也因文學上的貢獻榮獲大英帝國勛章（OBE）。2012年，她繼科爾姆·托賓擔任曼徹斯特大學的創意寫作教授。
