Randall在許多人眼裏like a god。這本通論專著一齣版就洛陽紙貴，在美國非常流行。很多觀點非常發人深省。不過問題在於還是old school的痕跡很明顯，基本上沒有涉及社會文化史，而是更多地從衛生行政的角度來考慮問題，作為global health專業的教科書固然不錯，但是作為曆史學著作，卻不能不有令人遺憾的地方。
