Mary Beard is a professor of classics at Newnham College, Cambridge, and the Classics editor of the TLS. She has world-wide academic acclaim, and is a fellow of the British Academy and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. 我翻译的，下半年出。
评分买这本书是在Elizabeth Warren的“Nevertheless, she persisted”事件之后。讲的是女性的失声和被剥夺权力——在公共舞台上女性沉默或消失，在公共语境中女性与leadership、authority、power等词格格不入。昨晚坐在餐桌边读这本书，小兔一直吵闹试图让我陪他玩，坐在客厅里的圆律师把小兔叫了过去，训话说：“妈妈在看一本很重要的书，其中很重要的一点就是女性不能被你这样的小狗吵闹而干不了正事，所以你现在跟我呆在一起，不准再过去。”????真是读这本书一个非常可爱的注脚了。

评分作者试图从西方经典作品中解读「女性」与「权力」是怎样被分离开，而这一行为又是怎样为男性掌权提供了「合理性」，虽然和我要写的report丝毫没关系，但是我很喜欢她结构女性沉默与女性权力排除的角度。
评分B姨这个副标题写着a manifesto，但实际又是讲座整理的，从宣传来讲跟马派的那种差着好几个段位。从知识来讲，不足之处还是明显的。就拿第二篇里的美杜莎来说，以她的形象来装饰盾牌的古希腊步兵和把克林顿ps到卡拉瓦乔画上的欧美老中青年在心理上显然天差地别，这不是提一句弗洛伊德就够了的。想要“to change the structure”，必然要先认清现有结构，如此以来光靠时间带来的陌生化不能算是一种聪明的写作了。所以虽然B姨公知的名号越来越响，但真正见到灵感的，还是她做学问的那些东西。
