During the past forty-five years, hundreds of essays have been devoted to the interpretation and development of economic theory from perspectives accommodating Sraffa's critical premises. Most of these studies have focused on problems related to capital theory, or on the translation into 'modern' mathematical language of theoretical schemes proposed by Sraffa. At present, many years after the publication of The Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities, work within these research projects seems to have lost much of its initial strength and persuasion. This book, by contrast, shows how Sraffa's theoretical contributions can be pursued in new directions, and suggests how his ideas can provide a complete alternative paradigm to the postclassical economic theory and challenge the persistent dominance of the widespread postclassical economic culture.
