欧文讲了一个长长的故事，有人会问他你这些故事的意义何在，想说明什么？（正如这个故事的后记所写）但欧文反对的就是一味追求道德意义，他讲故事为了娱乐读者，为了读者在小说的某个片段会心一笑，一笑而过就好。人生也有涯，不做无意义之事，又何以遣有涯之生？
评分读完突然感觉秋天来了。Irving笔下的新美国人不堪势利而弱小，同时也精明勤劳，Brom Bones是欧洲Cavalry的时间，Yankee Ichabod 则是新大陆的机械时间(无头骑士把脑袋扔出去砸Ichabod那里太好笑了吧。
