這本書最大的兩個特點：一是條理性，從史前到當代，如古代女人擦瞭桂花油的頭發，一絲不亂，而且每一大章節開始之前還有時間軸的比對；二是綫索性，不同風格、不同流派之間的過渡毫不生硬，特彆是會將相似的、或有承接關係的作品和藝術傢放在一起對比（錶格形式哦），誕生背景都有涉及，沒有一樣東西是憑空蹦齣來的。
