Generalizing then big picture by using a case study, Rodriguez had a limited horizon. I love his resistance on bilingual education & it got me thinking about myself. But I don’t like the way he gave up his first language, served English as a tool to gain public identity in the States.

Richard had grown culturally separated from his family, barely to find individual identity, and hardly to ignore the fact--education nurtured him an unnatural person, a person has no trace of his ancestry in spirit but flooded with nostalgia.

评分正是因為父母作為移民在美國社會的地位低下,作者自然而然地認同differences=inferior,所以才迫切地想全盤美化,排斥任何ethnic differences,認為父母無法溝通...讀來讀去,只覺得第一代移民還真是悲哀.
