本书为中国山水画画家李研山的研究专著，文字图片量大，对于图文搭配展示的研究高，更需要突出展现画家个人风格特点：即精湛的临古水平、对于古代经典作品的继承、及出众的用色。

This research monograph on Li Yanshan, a traditional landscape painter, features a large amount of text and images; much efforts are put into the layout and design of the monograph to highlight artist’s distinctive personal styles from different periods, including his way of emulating ancient artists, appropriation of earlier masterpieces, and excellent use of colors.

设计的灵感来源自宋版书《锦绣万花谷》，并参考了诸多古代名家眉批旁注的古籍善本。为了方便读者查阅，本书将支撑正文的不同文字材料环绕在正文四周排列；力求消解学术著作长文带来的乏味，本书在断章上更具有节奏感；分辨率不一、取径多元的图片经过设计，呈现在与之搭配的页面上。最后，本书加入了中国传统册页的元素——引首，并结合类正方形开本，试图让读者摊开书籍翻阅、调转书籍时获得册页的把玩感，从而享有良好的阅读体验。

The inspiration of the design draws from the Song-dynasty book entitled the Beautiful Flower Valley, and makes references to the commentary sections of various books from the Song down to Qing dynasty written by many literati. To make it reader- friendly, this book arranges the supporting textual evidence around the main text, to make academic book more enjoyable to read. Furthermore, the book is deliberately broken into chapters in a rhythmic way. Images with different resolution in different sizes are reserved for different parts of page. Finally, this book adds an element derived from the traditional Chinese album – colophon 引首; combined with the designed folio, the book is intended to entice readers, making reading a fun play.
