白修德（1915—1986），本名西奥多·H·怀特（Theodore Harold White），美国记者。1915年生于波士顿，童年坎坷，以卖报为生；后入哈佛大学读书，师从汉学家费正清，学习中文和中国历史、文化；毕业后任《时代》周刊驻重庆记者，采写了大量关于中国抗日战 争的新闻报道，写出《中国的惊雷》（Thunder Out of China）。回国后连续进行了四届美国总统选举的报道，写出《美国总统的诞生》（The Making of the President），其中1960年跟踪记录约翰•肯尼迪参选直至获胜的报道使他获得了1962年普利策奖。1986年因癌症逝世于纽约。
