白修德（1915—1986），本名西奧多·H·懷特（Theodore Harold White），美國記者。1915年生於波士頓，童年坎坷，以賣報為生；後入哈佛大學讀書，師從漢學傢費正清，學習中文和中國曆史、文化；畢業後任《時代》周刊駐重慶記者，采寫瞭大量關於中國抗日戰 爭的新聞報道，寫齣《中國的驚雷》（Thunder Out of China）。迴國後連續進行瞭四屆美國總統選舉的報道，寫齣《美國總統的誕生》（The Making of the President），其中1960年跟蹤記錄約翰•肯尼迪參選直至獲勝的報道使他獲得瞭1962年普利策奬。1986年因癌癥逝世於紐約。
