INTRODUCTION When Randy Read and I self.published I WANT TO CHANGE BUT I DON T KNOW HOW in 1978ï¼Œ with an initial print run of 3000 booksï¼Œ we certainly didn t anflcipate ever having to revise it. Nowï¼Œ thanks to our publishersï¼Œ Price Stern Sloanï¼Œ who bought the rights to the book in 1980ï¼Œ I have the responsibility of writing this intro- duction to the third edition. Randy and I wrote this book to help people who truly wish to changeï¼Œ and to assist counselors as they guide oth- ers in mastering their own lives. I did this revision with the same aim in mindï¼Œ and have reorganized the book for easier useï¼Œ as well as edited it to include updated material. .Randy Read did not participate in this revision; he died trag/ea//y in 1983 at the age of thirty-four. Randy was the smartest person I have ever known. We had an extremely honest relationship--often lovingï¼Œ sometimes stormyï¼Œ always stimulating.
