This book seeks to do for the 1980s what that book successfully ac- complished fi~r the 1970s. Much has happcncd in the health field and in the world as a whole in recent years. During the 1960s and 1970s holistic health was an ~hernativc movement associated with the "countcr culture"; during the 1980s it has been moving into the mainstream of American life. A growing number of health practitioners and laypersons look to holistic health for healing. No hmger relegated to small centersï¼Œ holistic health is now practiced in major hospitalsï¼Œ taught in uni- versitiesï¼Œ and used in businesses and corporations. This growth was reflected by Lawrence LeShanï¼Œ Ph.D.ï¼Œ president-elect of the Association of Humanistic Psychol- ogy (AItP)ï¼Œ at a mccting in Boston in August of 1984 when he notedï¼Œ "The Army Surgeon General is a dew)tee of holistic health. (;onscquentlyï¼Œ Walter Reed Hospital is be- coming one of tim most holistic hospitals in the world." Holistic health is truly influencing a variety of environ- ments.
