At the hale and hearty age of seventy-
one, Winslow Maxwell Penndragon
has made a life s work out of remaining
creatively unemployed. Indeed, he has
perfected the art of dilettantism and is a
renowned expert on the subject, having
written such compelling books as the
best-selling How to Enjoy the Art of
Dilettantism and its sequel, The Dili-
gent Dilettante.
Thus singularly obsessed with his
own enjoyment, Penndragon is terribly
shocked to discover that someone is
equally obsessed with putting a pre-
mature end to his rampant hedonism--
snuffing him--as it were. After two
bizarre attempts on his life, Penn-
dragon turns to ban ister Robert For-
sythe and his sleuthing secretary Miss
Sanderson, for help.., but too late.
Upon visiting Penndragon s estate,
Forsythe and Miss Sanderson encounter
an odd and disgruntled collection of
his relations: three bastard children,
his nephew and heir, an embittered sister-in-law, and even a discarded mis-
tress or two, all of whom seem to have
perfectly good motives for murder.And
although only one of this motley crew
is responsible for bludgeoning Penn-
dragon to death in his sleep, they all
agree that his death is scarcely sufficient
retribution for the sins committed in
