I am profoundly grateful to.my sons, Ryan and Darren, for theirintrepid independence and solid affection during the long monthsI was sequestered in my office, preoccupied with our past; to myparenting ally, Howard, for his continued affection and wit despitean ex-wife-who-writes; to my friend, Larry, not only for saving mylife but also for admirably braving the ups and downs of the sub-sequent years; and to my parents, Kay and Jerry, who ushered meand my four siblings through childhood with skill and intelligence,then gave us a lifetime of ever-richer humor and love.
