这本书紧接着Raz的The Morality of Freedom之后出版，对autonomy的概念做了相当有价值的讨论，并进而引申到医学伦理、家长主义等具体实践话题。对于我个人的最大启发在于，学到了如何去更好地界定一个概念，如何取舍概念的厚与薄或者强与弱，特别是处理一些规范性概念的时候。这一点在Hart的The Concept of Law中有点皮毛的体会，到Gerald Dworkin这里又加深了一些。所以，这本书的前三章值得反复阅读。
