As the Beatles and Rolling Stones climbed the U.S. charts, the Walker Brothers pulled off a successful U.S. invasion of the British charts. Moving to London in the mid-1960s, John Maus, Gary Leeds and Scott Engel suffered through poverty to launch a quest for pop stardom. Eventually, they would become a phenomenon in England, topping the British charts with "Make It Easy On Yourself" and "The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore." With their success came the trappings of the touring life, and an intense interest in their private lives — causing the band to split up just years later. Each of the members went on to record on a solo basis, but they eventually reformed and in 1978 recorded the album "Nite Flights," concluding their careers with a record that would go on to influence musicians for years to come. This biography draws on archive interview with the band and with those who contributed to their spectacular rise.
