Translation theory can be quite different from real translation practices. Every word, syllable, the ambience that the poem intended to create become profoundly significant in the act of translation. I love those translations without a subject. The paradox between impersonality and full absorption into the environment lies the beauty of the poem.

评分Weinberger是真的不客气。大部分都同意,除了他认为Kenneth Rexroth译的好之外。#15提到的“an endless series of negations”是真的有洞见:虽然Paz把“返景”译成“Western Light”稍显多余,不过认识到王维是佛教徒所以能理解这首诗是a series of negations很有意思。不是很喜欢Weinberger说satori,感觉是时代错误:非要说的话唐代禅和日本禅相差甚远。以及最后的感想:翻译要小心,要不然有一个Weinberger在背后说风凉话就难受了????
