Thomas Cromwell，也被使用不同語言的人稱作Tomos，Tommaso和Thomaes，Putney的鐵匠之子，齣生日期不詳。他的肖像看起來像殺人犯，有人以為他是威爾士人、愛爾蘭人、猶太人、巫師。他的鄰居，神聖羅馬帝國的大使說他是語言大師，但早年生活成謎。他是個爬到瞭頂端的幸運兒。故事從Wolsey的倒颱開始，龐然大物都不會安靜地走開，餘音繞梁瞭很久。Cromwell不是個冷血的人，他隻是很practical，不浪費多餘的話，不暴露多餘的情感。天使一樣的Grace死去的時候，他會看起來悲痛多久呢？對Lady Carey算是一種曖昧麼？對Wolf Hall的Jane呢？是男人還是父親的眼光？從Cromwell的角度看齣去，一切大概都是"words, just words"的感覺吧。
