In a plot-scrambling display of virtuosity, we follow Pilgrim simultaneously through all phases of his life, concentrating on his (and Vonnegut's) shattering experience as an American prisoner of war who witnesses the firebombing of Dresden. More on the theme of anti-war than sci-fi. Time Travel/sf is rather convenient for carrying out the story and expressing a different philosophy to life/death. The film based on the novel is a successful adaption and loyal to the story.
