Group Portrait from Hell describes a world of human suffering--from the mythological Fall, through ancient cultural and individual histories up to the presentathrough failures of love to overcome our conflicts and mortalities. These conditions are alleviated by interludes of philosophical speculation, humor, and moments of mutual recognition and communion. But, overall, these carefully honed and often formal poems describe a tragic human condition rather than a adivine comedya as our common fate.
