很好读，但故事被拉得太长，最后结局也可以看成两人提前进入五十年后…算好结局

surprisingly easy to read. it's just a tragic life stretching in front of you. even before you realize it, your life comes to a sudden end..

让人忍不住想要把The Story of the Night 和Blackwater Lightship一起比较，后者以母亲为主视角的叙述，对死亡和爱情的描述似乎过于冷静、旁观，更喜欢前者，书名富有含义，第一人称的叙述更加沉浸，切实，令人心碎。

实在不能和后来的作品比，平心而论最多三星，多出来的一星其实是为了那些很私人化的细节吧。

抛开故事的主题和地点设置差异之外，总感觉跟Toibin的其他书相比有些不同，不过语言都是很质朴的，很好读的一本书。/ 三年后重读这本书，除了为Richard和Pablo的感情唏嘘之外，更加关注七八十年代南美社会变动的大背景、Richard母亲对自己的身份认同、以及AIDS这场改变同志史甚至人类史的plague在九十年代前后对患者尤其是同性恋者的巨大影响。还在考虑会不会用这部作品写毕业论文，至少身体政治这方面已经有人涉及到了。
