實在不能和後來的作品比，平心而論最多三星，多齣來的一星其實是為瞭那些很私人化的細節吧。

surprisingly easy to read. it's just a tragic life stretching in front of you. even before you realize it, your life comes to a sudden end..

拋開故事的主題和地點設置差異之外，總感覺跟Toibin的其他書相比有些不同，不過語言都是很質樸的，很好讀的一本書。/ 三年後重讀這本書，除瞭為Richard和Pablo的感情唏噓之外，更加關注七八十年代南美社會變動的大背景、Richard母親對自己的身份認同、以及AIDS這場改變同誌史甚至人類史的plague在九十年代前後對患者尤其是同性戀者的巨大影響。還在考慮會不會用這部作品寫畢業論文，至少身體政治這方麵已經有人涉及到瞭。
