意識到文明對個體的壓抑並沒有啥新意，弗洛伊德的洞見在於看到文明和個體之間有條件的同構性，這一點有些近似《理想國》中大字和小字的類比，但是弗的模型相對來說更加精緻。他不再使用垂直方嚮上的靈魂三分，而是創造瞭一個愛洛斯與阿南刻恒久鬥爭的巨型神話，而這一神話在本書裏還隻是影影綽綽，需要結閤他在另外許多處的論述纔能更好理解。另外弗的文風真的很彆緻，讓人又恨又愛的蠻不講理竟有些文學性，之前讀中文本味同嚼蠟，果然英文本纔是正確打開方式。
