V.S.奈保爾（V.S.Naipaul）：
英國當代作傢，文化巨匠。1932年生於特立尼達島上一個印度移民傢庭，1950年進入牛津大學攻讀英國文學，畢業後遷居倫敦。
50年代開始寫作，作品以小說、遊記、文論為主，主要有《畢斯沃斯先生的房子》、《米格爾街》、《自由國度》、《河灣》與“印度三部麯”等。其作品在全球享有盛譽，半個世紀裏，將裏斯奬、毛姆奬、史密斯奬、布剋奬、第一屆大衛·柯恩文學奬等收入囊中。1990年，被英國女王封為爵士。2001年，榮獲諾貝爾文學奬。

奈保尔这个名字我真的听了不知道多少次，但一直都不是特别敢读，因为名声太大如雷贯耳，也因为印度这个地方在我心里实在是太大太神秘，不说别的，每年asia week new york上东区几个展印度藏品的画廊就每次在语言上都能震慑到我，从梵文到英文直接就让我懵圈的节奏，觉得这玩意...
評分从十年前奈保尔得奖的那一天，就一直在听说他如何失去了根，他一只在寻找身份认同什么什么。但这种感觉却一直没有发自心底。 后来在读《半生》的时候，这种感觉才第一次到来。 而在重读印度三部曲的时候，终于明白，奈保尔为什么用一种苛刻得甚至让人愤怒的心理来看印度的原因...
