印度移民后代奈保尔先生生于英国殖民地特立尼达，18岁时前往英国求学，从25岁起他的小说获得各种文学奖项，30岁时首次回到印度做一年旅行，所见所感成集为《幽黯国度：记忆与现实交错的印度之旅》，15年与28年后，他又分别写下两本印度的观感，集结成《印度三部曲》传世。...  

那天看完《幽黯国度》，奈波尔写印度文明的反省大作。当时出版时并没有特别留意，识见有限的我根本还不认得奈波尔到底有什么了不起的地方。读其中奈波尔写到朝圣的一段，不知怎的心中老是想到瑞典探险家斯文．赫定，莫名的种族优越感总在笔触中不经意地流露。奈波尔是千里达裔...
