奧斯汀14歲用當時流行的書信體寫的小說，可以說對話和修辭相當荒謬和誇張，主人公除瞭暈倒就是死掉，人物十分呆闆單一，不過已經可以從字裏行間預計她的寫作風格。話說19世紀的時候，男性讀者比女性更喜歡她，現在完全顛倒瞭，也蠻有意思的。
