我每天隻讀一點，生怕太快讀完。我讀著讀著會大聲念齣來。我會走在公園裏想起它的句子。我讀完後買瞭紙本，把它寄給我最感激和敬佩的老師。是的，它關於宗教，關於曆史和現在，關於父與子，關於原諒，關於愛，但於我來說，它更關於存在的純粹意義，和純粹的Grace。今年讀到的最好的，沒有之一。

剛好看到比目魚老師摘錄的哈金談契科夫：「比如，契科夫後期的一些最輝煌的小說，根本沒有故事，但也能讓人讀得津津有味，而且還感動得一塌糊塗。文學史上常把這種小說稱為“一片生活”（a slice of life）。」覺得這話用來說Marilynne Robinson的書，也閤適。雖然遺憾因不信教未能更深入地品味Gilead中一些討論，但藉由老牧師的視角去看生活，也未嘗不是作傢為讀者廣布的福音。「Hope deferred maketh the heart sick.」「But hope deferred is still hope.」另，有沒有人研究下Marilynne Robinson作品中「受洗」這個情節？在Lila和這本書中感覺都很關鍵……

On baptism, preaching, justice, disappointment, honor, grace, passion, forgiveness and all the rest senses of beauty&grievance of this mortal life.(pp.129 154 179 204)。推薦一篇文學評論Lynne Hinojosa "John Ames as Historiographer: Pacifism, Racial Reconciliation, and Agape in Marilynne Robinson's Gilead".(R&L47.2)

Her 1980 novel, Housekeeping, won a Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award for best first novel and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

Her second novel, Gilead, was acclaimed by critics and received the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the 2004 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, and the 2005 Ambassador Book Award.

Her third novel, Home, was published in 2008 and was nominated for both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award; it won the Orange Prize.
