Marquez is one of the best story-tellers. He is cynical, funny, sentimental, and heavy alternatively. Reading his story is like travelling in a mysterious Latin American forest with dazzling living species and splendid streams in it. The narrative is mysterious but succinct, ironic and romantic at the same time.

were it not for my expired visa, I would have read this on a Caribbean cruise and walked down the alley where Santiago confronted his fateful death. for all the presumed innocence that caused the inadvertently staged murder and for all the imaginary honor that eventually faded away like a misty drizzle, poor soul, thy death got everyone better off!
