在The education of children 里蒙田似乎更斯多葛派一些，但强调知识融入经验的论点，一直延伸到最后一篇On experience当中。对古希腊向知识本身的追求是一种逆反，而是重视自身体会，认为人可以由自然引导有自发的行为和规律，欣然接受不可避免的欲求与疾苦而领悟到超验的意义。这种Supercelestial与Subterrestrial的整合与传统神学的二元也是背道而驰，算是用他的散文开了一个柔和的先河。
