在The education of children 裏濛田似乎更斯多葛派一些，但強調知識融入經驗的論點，一直延伸到最後一篇On experience當中。對古希臘嚮知識本身的追求是一種逆反，而是重視自身體會，認為人可以由自然引導有自發的行為和規律，欣然接受不可避免的欲求與疾苦而領悟到超驗的意義。這種Supercelestial與Subterrestrial的整閤與傳統神學的二元也是背道而馳，算是用他的散文開瞭一個柔和的先河。
