本來是一本給creative writer的閱讀指南，但是對想要深入閱讀文學作品的普通讀者也很有啓發，一些經典作品的選段分析非常精彩，附錄中還列齣瞭可供參考的書單。說到底，文化積澱、語言敏感度、生活體驗、文本細讀和定期重讀一個都不能少。
评分針對創意寫作，但對普通讀者的閱讀大有啓發！學會從閱讀（reading closely)中學習如何寫作和對廣義上的創作有啓發。大量舉例清晰明瞭，並從中認識瞭很多現代作傢。倒數第二章嚮契柯夫緻敬，認同不過！立馬購買契柯夫英文版全集重新閱讀。
