（1）主要是为了研究图像分节问题读的这本书； （2）非常艰涩，之前还读过《玫瑰的名字》，也是一样艰涩。化学数学物理美学同时出现在一页纸上，感觉崩溃； （3）翻译方面，术语很混乱，这主要是因为当年符号学术语还没统一，尽管现在也没统一，但是基本术语（在赵毅衡等学者的努力下）已经达成共识。举个例子，书中“图像”一词大多数情况指的是皮尔斯三分中的“像似”（icon），但有时也指“图像”（image）。（当说“视觉图像”时就是指image。） （4）艾柯对图像进行了详细分类，其中生理刺激之类不构成意指作用，自然也就不能分节；三层分节主要体现在摄影中。
评分比起巴特的符号学艾柯的代码理论与符号生产理论更能吸引我，这是一种将实用主义与解构主义综合起来的努力，这样看来似乎符号有着明确的界限，而符号衍生的意义与源泉是无限的。不喜欢巴特是因为在他的精密文本面前我就像粗俗之人，而在艾柯的文本里，我好像看到了那个写《傅科摆》的俏皮且淘气的艾柯。
