花了两年时间没事闲着读了一大半，哪怕再多人赞美爱丽丝门罗，我只能遗憾的摇摇我的头，读多了这位的小说简直让我有种呕吐感，并非不敬，实在不对口味，草蛇灰线太多了，就丧失新鲜感了也。

买的Vintage新版，Jane Smiley写的序言，门罗的作品很挑读者，想找高级鸡汤的读者会失望，功利化的读者也会失望，即便深爱她的读者，也经常忘记故事内容，但她就是这类最伟大的作家，真正的读者只能凝视所有的细节以求得什么，而她的伟大就在于，读者并不真的理解自己得到了什么，

除了个别篇目，门罗最耀眼的短篇都在这里了，想偷懒只看精华的这本足够了。因是自选集，能看出老太太的倾向，有些纯粹是她个人关于母亲和女儿不可磨灭的主题的偏好，有些是早年父母生活的描摹，有两篇是时隔数十年重修过的版本，如果能把初版也一同收录就好了，让人一窥看出她笔法心境的变化（但感觉老太太是从不可惜旧稿的人）剩下的则是纯粹的技艺高超之作。门罗是罕见的能直接感受技艺震撼的作家，再不谙小说笔法的人也不会完全无动于衷。train一直是我心头好，提到的人少，被她收录自然感动，遥遥引为知己。前言引了门罗一段话，大意是她之所以“敢”写是因为生活在一个无人写作的小镇，不用应付高阶文人。这段话很有趣，不需整日与人或被人比较，安心把一门手艺操练半生，自然越写越纯粹越写越快乐。
