刚读的时候很难进入，不知道是不是因为作者的语言缘故，还是小说本身的日本背景缘故。后来越读越流畅，三天内就看完了。日本侵华战争的背景下是普通人的生活节奏和相处。满满的日式人生哲学和人情味。

Matsu显然就是标题中所指的武士了，这样一个默默无闻的男人，确又是坚强的化身。小说背景是1937年日军侵华，香港少年由于父亲在日本经商的关系，来到日本一个海边小镇养病，然后结识了照顾他们在日本海边房产的Matsu等日本人。在战争的阴影下，远离战争纷乱的小镇中，故事展开。最喜欢的是麻风病村的故事，Matsu和Sachi的互相拯救彼此的那份情。人性的坚强和美好。

Read this in high school English class. My teacher did not like it very much but I developed a strong connection with the author and the characters. Gail Tsukiyama is a local writer of the San Francisco bay area, she is half Chinese half Japanese. Her writing is typical Asian American.
